Born in Sallent, Spain, St. Anthony Mary Claret labored as a missionary in Catalonia and the Canary Islands. In 1849 he established the Congregation of the Misssionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Later, when he had been consecrated as Archibishop of Santiago de Cuba, he founded the Teaching Sister of Mary Immaculate. He spread devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and the Immaculate Heart of Mary by his preaching and writings and helped to revive the catalan language. He died in 1870.
